Tawhai Falls
A thoroughly recommend short walk. You will know why when you come across the 13-meter high waterfall located in Tongariro National Park, along the way to Whakapapa Village. The easy and enjoyable walk brings you to the waterfall’s lookout, then to the falls base where you can find ‘natural rocky Trolls’ (exactly as described in the ‘Hobbit’).
Picnic on the River
The Tongariro River is hard to beat for a peaceful picnic spot – it starts in the snow-clad peaks of Tongariro National Park before flowing into Lake Taupō. The pristine river is one of the best places in the world to catch trout. Listen to the birdlife among native bush as you sit and relax on the water’s edge – hard to find a better spot for a picnic.

Year-round activities abound at the Tongariro National Park. No matter what time of the year you are here, the activities are many and varied.
